Details

  • Theme: "Witches Gone Wilde!" will welcome roaming folk dressed as Elementals, Deities, fairies, and creature-types. Honor your Ancestors in the flicker of torchlight with Coven Oldenwilde and the Spirits of river and forest!
  • Features (volunteers needed for each!):
    • Kidz Zone: Revel worry-free as your kids enjoy autumn games, spooky storytelling, and a musical tyke parade!
    • Web-weaving Area: Meet folk of like mind, single-mingle, or speed-date here. (Last year a couple that met here got Handfasted shortly thereafter!)
    • Musicians' Row: Play along the winding path as folks jump in and out at will, stomp-dancing to your tune!
    • Diviners' Realm: Fashion a decorative fortune-telling setup, erect it in this area, and give fortune-telling readings like "Pull-pot" (small items in a bowl of sand that querents dig out, the symbol's message in their life then explained). Only know Tarot? E-mail Lady Passion for an easy, cool method you'll love!
    • Ritual circle at 9 p.m. culminating in the traditional Spiral Dance finale!
  • When: Halloween, Thursday, October 31st, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.; set-up starts at noon-thirty
  • Where: French Broad River Park, 508 Riverview Drive, West Asheville, N.C. 28806. By popular demand, Asheville's Public Samhain Witch Ritual returns to the site of Samhain 16: The Mast Beast and many previous Samhain Rites.

Conducted by High Priestess Lady Passion and High Priest *Diuvei, Coven Oldenwilde
  • Wear: Witch garb, costumes, masks, or special effects galore!

Got none? Make a homemade rattle: Remove label from empty plastic aspirin bottle. Decorate outside using colorful Sharpie markers. Put pebbles, buttons, or raw rice inside, cap, and shake!

Directions & Parking

Parking

Parking at French Broad River Park is very limited, and forbidden in the circular turn-around at the main entrance. But it is OK to drop passengers off in the turn-around, then park where safe along Amboy Road and nearby Carrier Park. (Please remember to lock your car!) A paved greenway path runs along the south side of Amboy between Carrier Park and the back entrance of French Broad River Park, but it is unlit and there will be no Moonlight, so we recommend you carry a flashlight, glow stick, Jack o'Lantern, etc.
